We use a special “lock-down browser” to protect the integrity of our exams: the Safe Exam Browser (“SEB”), developed by the ETH Zurich. (That’s the same University where the programming language Pascal was invented!)
To use this browser, you must download and install SEB using the following steps:
- Go to https://safeexambrowser.org/download_en.html and download the version for Windows or macOS, depending on which operating system you use. (Note: do NOT use the iOS version!) See the picture below:

- From this page, if you choose the link “Download from GitHub project site”, your download will start immediately. If you use the big blue download button, you will first be taken to the SOURCEFORGE site, and your download will start after a few seconds:

- Once you have downloaded the correct installation program (.exe on Windows, or .dmg on macOS), double-click it to install SEB. Accept any prompts your operating system may give you.
- If SEB has been installed correctly, the “sebs://” protocol will have been registered, so that, when you are ready to take an exam, you will be able to start it using the link in your dashboard:

- If you click that link, you will be asked if you want to allow our site to open the sebs link with SEB. Accept by selecting Open Link.

- This will configure SEB so that you can take one of more ICTCP exams, and you should get a “Configuration Successful” popup. The popup will ask you if you want to “quit for now”. Answer “No” to start the exam. (Note: if for some reason you are not completely ready yet, you will have multiple opportunities to stop and close SEB!)

It is not a problem if you accidentally select “Yes” here: the configuration program will simply terminate, instead of starting SEB. You can then go back to your dashboard and click “Start Exam” again (see steps 4 and following)!
